The Webby Awards: What They Are and Why You Should Vote for OMHP!

Welcome to the most recent installment of One Moore Hollywood Podcast! This episode is about The Webby Awards and what it means for OMHP to be nominated for one. The New York Times called The Webby "The Internet's highest honor," and we're inclined to agree.

Our fine hosts, Chris Moore, Katie Marpe, and Dennis De Nobile, will review what The Webby Awards represent and why OMHP's nomination has given some of them a new perspective on awards show culture.

What Is a Webby Award?

Presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, The Webby Awards comprises 3000+ leading Internet experts, business leaders, former Webby Award winners and nominees, and, as they say on their site, other Internet Professionals. Founded in 1996, when the Internet as we know it was in its beginning stages, The Webby Awards recognizes excellence in the following nine categories: Websites and Mobile Sites, Video, Advertising, Media & PR, Apps & Software, Social, Podcasts, Games, and AI, Metaverse & Virtual.

The Webby Award and The Webby People's Voice Award are given to nominees in each category, so OMHP is technically up for two awards. The Academy votes on the former, and the public votes on the latter (this is where you come in!).

Best Television & Film, Individual Episodes, Podcast Webby Nomination

So how did we get here? Why was OMHP even nominated for a Webby in the first place?

A while back, OMHP submitted to the Webbys for several categories under Podcast, including Individual Episodes about Television & Film. And whaddya know, the Academy picked them for the nom! Our hosts were shocked when they found out. De Nobile's wife even thought he'd photoshopped the nomination. Suffice it to say, they were all pleased and very excited (even Moore, admitted cynic that he is).

Out of 13,000 projects from all 50 states and over 70 countries, someone at the Academy thought OMHP deserved the nomination, along with just four others. No one on this team knows why, but that's pretty cool, no matter how you slice it. Compared to the other four, OMHP is the little guy, up against podcasts from Nickelodeon, Netflix, and two from HBO. As Moore put it, if only the interns at Netflix voted, they'd likely outnumber all the votes our hosts are trying to gather.

But, Do We Even Like Awards Shows?

If you've been listening to OMHP for a while, you'll know that our hosts, notably Moore himself, have complicated feelings about awards shows. Over the years, Moore has seen how much gets in the way of the integrity and authenticity of awards shows, so while he delights in recognizing talent and excellence, he doesn't always believe it's a process to be trusted.

Despite his reservations, Moore is excited about this Webby nomination. It's fun for him to (mostly) suspend his skepticism and simply get excited about the recognition.

Ultimately, OMHP is grateful for its listeners and The Webby Awards' kind recognition. So, listeners, family, and friends, if you'd like to show your support for the little guy in the mix of all these industry giants, vote for us here.
